MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Would you dare to brave the dangerous Panamanian jungle for a good cause? Nine celebrities do just that in Beyond the Edge, a new CBS original reality series that challenges celebrities to endure brutal conditions and compete on epic adventures to raise money for charity.
It’s arguably one of the most physically and emotionally demanding reality competitions to ever see the small screen as nine celebrities step out of their comfort zone and spend up to two weeks in an extremely inhospitable environment.

There are no judges, there are no votes, there are no losers. The decision for celebrities to stay another day is up to them. . The longer they stay, the more money they collect for their charities.
NFL legend Ray Lewis and model Paulina Poriskova are two of the attendees.
“Every day you had a physical test. Every day you had a mental test. But you had these tests with no food, no water and no sleep,” Lewis said. “We slept on bamboo sticks. It stormed every night, for almost all 15 nights. It was so mentally exhausting.
“There were mosquitoes. There were 13 kinds of monkeys like Ray rediscovered because they weren’t silent at night. None of us could sleep. There were also poisonous snakes and spiders,” Poriskova said.
But somewhere through all the physical and mental exhaustion, competitors who came from all walks of life came together, leaned on each other and helped each other.

“We come from such different backgrounds and yet we have stuck together. We all stuck together and looked out for each other. I’ve never felt that level of trust with anyone, I didn’t really know that. It was completely empowering for me,” Poriskova said.
“We had to do something that I think should become a way of life for everyone,” Lewis explained. “We had to express different ways to show each other love and we cared about each other and pushed each other.”
CBS4’s Lisa Petrillo couldn’t let the NFL Hall of Fame go without asking him about the school where his football career began, the University of Miami. Both are former students.
“The greatest thing that ever happened in my life was the University of Miami. The greatest opportunity that was ever given to me was through the University of Miami,” he explained.
“I turned away from a 17-year-old boy walking through the doors and left a grown man. There’s nothing in the world like UM and you know it,” Lewis said.
The show is hosted by SHOWTIME Sports announcer Mauro Ranallo.
